No Name Pond - Uxbridge Town Park Fishing Report

Just A Walk Into The Park...

I had a bit of time to kill late this past Saturday afternoon into the evening so I took a walk into the very small fishing holes within our Town Park (Uxbridge). I fished in what I call the lower pond which can be accessed off of Marywood St. I brought with me a small tackle box with some very small plugs and on my line of the pole I took was already a small plug in a baby bass coloration. With the very first cast I was into a bluegill and the same thing on the next cast. None of this is what made this trip memorable. The thing that made this trip memorable was that I did something there that I haven't done since I was 16 years old; and that was to catch a Hornpout on a plug or lure. I did it once at 16 in Pout Pond (my same town) and at that time my picture was in the newspaper. A bit later into my stay I hooked into a small bass but it got off at about 2 to 3 feet from shore. Along the way I caught many more bluegills; but then things started to slow down so I changed up the lure I was using. I put on a like a Shad Rap type plug that looks like a shiner with a bit of blue and black in it. I threw that quite a bit and wasn't having any luck with it as already I think it was to big (at only 2-1/2 to 3 inches long) for the small bluegill to mess with. But I kept at it and after moving around the pond I was about mid-way along the wall on the long side of the pond and casting to where I thought was the deepest part of the pond when I got a good hit that made me think I had a whale on. Come to find out I caught one of the biggest Crappie I have caught in a long time. There is no way this crappie grew up in this pond; someone must have caught it elsewhere and placed it in this pond only to have me catch it once again. This Crappie was 12-1/4 inches long and was just shy of 1 pound in weight. Also just before leaving (which was around 7:30 PM) I caught another small Bass over near some lillypads. This took place after I had changed lures once again to a very small Zara Spook with a frog pattern. A very good time spent fishing that killed about 4 hours. I was going to check out both ponds; but only stayed at the lower pond. Maybe next time I will visit the upper pond.
